Poor Man's Spaghetti

My sister E and I had poor man's spaghetti for dinner. Haven't had this for a long time. Gaaaaahhh, I missed this although I have to say that this poor man's spaghetti is one of the items on my long laundry list of food.Poor man's spag is palatable, best served with hot steam rice, but I rarely crave for it---because first I don't like the strong smell of canned sardines, second it leaves a strong smell to the cutlery and especially to your mouth that you want to brush your teeth forever and third it reminds me of days when we used to always eat it because we're poor. FYI we are still poor but we now have a lot of options since my siblings and I appreciate veggies now. LOL.

Living away from home is quite stressful for a number of things. One,and I will only be talking about this item since I think this post is getting a lot of side stories,is deciding what to eat or what to cook.So when I asked my sister what she wants to eat, since we always eat what she wants to eat lest I deal with Little Miss Grumpy again, she answered "Sardinas na may Odong!" followed with a big smile. Yes you read it right. Poor man's spaghetti is only sardinas na may odong! I just made it a bit classy. HAHAHA. Gotcha!

By the way, I first heard about the term Poor Man's Spaghetti from my Boy Scouts of the Philippines friends when in 1998,during the peak of our boy scout and girl scout days, I asked them what they prepared and cooked during their training camps. I thought how great their troop masters were because they were allowed to prepare such and how unlucky for us girl scouts because we had vegetable overload. Then came the aka sardinas na may odong.HAHAHAHA.Jukir (Another side story :p)

So as the name suggests, poor man's spaghetti is very affordable and easy to prepare. Here's my sister's recipe:

1 can(155 g) of Seňorita Sardines in Tomato Sauce
2 small packs of El Seňorito Odong Noodle Soup
1 medium size onion
3 cloves of garlic
2 tablespoons of oil

Cut the onion and garlic in whatever you like,we had it in dice.Sauté onion and garlic.Put in the sardines, let it simmer.Throw in the odong and make sure you don't overcook it.You can always throw in up to 5 small packs of odong.

See,easy as 1,2,3. :) And we only spent less than Php 30.00!

We had the perfect dinner, perfect for the windy & rainy night, perfect for the budget. HAHA.

And here's the bonus.

Find X

Hours ago I received a message from my landlady which I thought I'd share with you. Although the message was anything but funny it still made me laugh.
The message goes like this:

Gud pm Belinda.Nakasway nakag tutor?Nterested ka mo tutor ug 3rd yr Geometry n 4th yr Algebra?

The message had me laughing for seconds.HAHAHA. Honestly, for the first time after such a long time someone actually asked me about Math---Geometry and Algebra at that. What made it even more uncommon is that not a friend or someone younger than me was asking for my assistance or whatever you call it but a mother, a mother who only want whats good for her children. Not that the offer of the mother was a laughing matter to me but seriously if you have known me since forever you would know that I'm not the person to ask to when it comes to Math. Math is my weakness and if you ask me where to find x I can only give you my sheepish smile or a blank face, whichever comes first.hehe.

Seriously, hours ago I could have gotten myself a new source of income.I could have been more proud of myself that I got me a 'job' because I'm so good at Math. But I am not. Sayang.

This made my day and I'd like to thank my landlady for her message boosted my morale just when I needed it the most. :)

Say What?!

Heads up! This post will only be dealing with the name I am most known with.

================

I'm one of those who make a big deal about names, how it is spelled and how it is pronounced.
So you can just imagine my horror every time my name is misspelled and more so if it's mispronounced which by the way happens every so often! I have no inkling on why some people don't get it.I mean how could they not spell it right? I provided them the spelling in the first place. And how could they not pronounce it right either when my name's not complicated,it's even a one-syllable name! Tsk.

My name is LENG and you just have to pronounce it the same way it is spelled. No silent consonants as that of J,H or what have you,no umlaut, just plain and simple Leng. I don't know why you don't get it! I think about my name scribbled on coffee cups, printed in receipts and I can only shake my head. I think about my name pronounced as Lyn,Ling,Len,Li,Le and all the variations from L-E-N-G that you could think of and I can only cringe.

I don't know how this will stop.I don't think this will ever stop. I still have the rest of the world to meet and greet I am definitely sure someone else will commit the same mistake again.

That is why no matter how big a deal this is for me I just don't make a fuss out of it. Big deal na dili May sense ba? HAHA. Seriously, as much as I want to have it spelled and pronounced correctly some people just can't do it. So I'll just have to deal with it nicely.I can even joke about it.You know what they always say, don't sweat the small stuff.I will just have to make sure that I don't do the same thing to other people because I know how it feels. It sucks.

The complimentary cupcake I got from Bigby's on my 24th birthday. :p

Shadows on my Wall

Cebu has been experiencing power outages as of late. If it has something to do with the weather (as it has been raining a lot lately too!) I wouldn't really know. I haven't read the local dailies. :)

And what better things to do during outages? "Making friends with shadows on my wall"

Meet my serious(shadow 1),clumsy(shadow 2) and sarcastic(shadow 3) friends :)

Unfinished Business

2002---the year I graduated in high school. That was nine years ago.Ten years ago or in 2001 I had a special project. The goal was I'd give my girl friends a little something before we all part ways,go to different schools(which was already obvious then) and head to college.I would give each of them a cross stitch embroidery with patterns/design that, for me, best describe them so that they will not forget about me even if we get to meet new friends. So high school. HAHA.

But I never got to finish the project. I never got to have it framed. Hence, I was not able to give it to my friends.Sayang.

But....I'm not going to let my effort, time and money from this project put to waste. I decided to revive it and finish the project. And along with that decision I have also decided not to give these to my friends anymore since the goal and purpose has expired a decade ago. hehe. I just have to finish everything and have it framed and hang it on our wall so that I'll always be reminded that a decade ago I had a project and not after a decade did I decide to finish it. =P

Take a look at the unfinished business.
